Jennifer always dreamed of being multi-tasking and a star. When she was young, Jennifer enjoyed many musical styles, mostly Afro-Caribbean styles like merengue, salsa and bachata. Additionally, she loved popular music like hip-hop as well as R&B. Although she loved films, it was the world of music that was also a fascination for her. West Side Story, a musical composed by Rita Moreno (1961), was her main source of inspiration. At 5, Jennifer began taking singing and dancing lessons. Jennifer, besides being an entertainer and a Catholic schoolgirl, attended for eight years at Holy Family Catholic Middle School in The Bronx. After a four-year stay and graduation, she attended Preston High School, an all-girls preparatory school. Jennifer excelled in athletics at school and competed in tennis as well as track and field. The Castle Hill neighbourhood was her residence for the majority of her adult life. Jennifer moved out of the house when she turned 18 and moved in with her family. In the meantime, Lopez worked at a law firm while she took dancing jobs at night.
